LGR: A Shared Future for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire

People across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are being invited to share their views on the future of local government.
A survey, launching today, aims to gather public feedback on what matters most to local people and organisations, to help shape new authorities’ priorities.

June 2025

In June 2025, the Government fed back to all councils across the UK on their interim submissions. Our interim submission, outlined our initial proposal, showed what local government reorganisation could look like in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Following the Government’s feedback, we are now working on a final proposal to submit to Government by 28 November 2025. Read the full story here.

March 2025

Throughout March 2025, each council held a Full Council meeting to agree a county-wide interim submission to Government. This included our initial ideas for what LGR could look like in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Our interim submission outlined three options for how new unitary councils might be structured in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Read the full story here.

February 2025

On 5 February 2025, Central Government wrote to Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Leaders and Leaders of another 21 other areas across the UK, asking us to submit proposals on what new unitary councils could look like in our areas. In other words, we were asked how we would split up Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to meet the Government’s LGR criteria. Read the full story here.
